  3.                              THE MAYFLOWER COMPACT

  5.   In the name of God, Amen.  We, whose names are underwritten, the          
  6. loyal subjects of our dread sovereigne Lord King James, by the Grace        
  7. of God, of Great Britaine, France, and Ireland king, defender of the        
  8. faith, etc., having undertaken for the glory of God, and advancement        
  9. of the Christian faith, and the honor of our king and country, a            
  10. voyage to plant the first colony in the Northerne parts of Virginia,        
  11. doe, by these presents, solemnly and mutually in the presence of God        
  12. and one another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civill      
  13. body politick, for our better ordering and preservation, and                
  14. furtherance of the ends aforesaid; and by virtue hereof do enact,           
  15. constitute, and frame, such just and equall laws, ordinances, acts,         
  16. constitutions, and offices, from time to time, as shall be thought          
  17. most meete and convenient for the generall good of the Colonie unto         
  18. which we promise all due submission and obedience.  In witness whereof      
  19. we have hereunto subscribed our names at Cap-Cod the llth of November,      
  20. in the raigne of our sovereigne lord, King James of England, France,        
  21. and Ireland, the eighteenth and of Scotland, the fiftie-fourth.
